Alex is a statewide enterprise reporter covering politics and public health for the Lexington Herald-Leader. She was hired in 2019 as a Report for America corps member covering public health and social services in Eastern Kentucky. She previously covered politics for the Bangor Daily News in Maine, where she lived for eight years. She also reported from the Midcoast for the BDN and led the paper's metro desk coverage.

Alex's reporting has earned her regional accolades, including multiple awards from the Maine and Kentucky press associations. Her work has been recognized by Esquire, the Washington Post, the New York Times, the Columbia Journalism Review, and Two Writers Slinging Yang, a podcast hosted by Jeff Pearlman. 

A native of Kentucky, Alex graduated from Western Kentucky University with a degree in English and American history. She studied creative nonfiction at the Salt Institute for Documentary Studies in Portland, Maine. Alex lives in Louisville.
